The Chronicles of Ismir

The Chronicles of Ismir is a series of books set in the world of Leera and follows a young Iona Moran as she comes to terms with newfound powers and her new connection to the dragon known as The Ashen, Ismir. Having lost her parents at an early age, the series features themes of found family, bravery in the face of peril, and an everchanging world steeped in secrets.

The series is Young Adult Dark Fantasy and features/will feature varying levels of violence, betrayal, and minor romance as our main characters uncover secrets about the world around them. The series also contains queer and disabled identities as they navigate this war-torn medieval-adjacent world.

However, as many forces that stand with Iona are pitted against her, perhaps more. Infiltrating the very school Iona is hesitant to call home marks the next step of a dark plot centuries in the making. Will her new friends be the next casualty of a war she didn’t know was raging, as were her parents? How can a 16-year old girl stop a long awaited ritual that threatens to devour the world?

ঌ Book 2: Cherub's Bow (2027 ETA)

Book 2 is currently in the works! As book 1 took about 10 years of writing very sporadically to complete, I'm focused on getting book 2 done a lot faster. Genre: Secret World/Urban Fantasy/Paranormal (still narrowing it down)

ANTI-AI STANCE: As an author, I am against the use of Artificial intelligence in the writing space, especially generative AI. I care greatly about the environment and seeing others so brazenly use gen AI hurts. It's bad for the environment, has been seen to diminish the cognitive skills of its users, and overall just takes the joy away from creating and collaborating with others. I will always do my best to work with artists who are also anti-AI, as well as not stand for it in any part of my work flow.

There is some nuance when it comes to programs like Grammarly, that are glorified autocorrect, however I recognized in college that Grammarly also doesn't always get it right, or the corrections it suggests don't always make sense, especially when writing prose and not a research paper (where sounding like a robot is perhaps better). So, I have since discontinued its use as I didn't want to pay for pro and it was annoying me to no end. I will keep a lookout in the future for Ai's spread as it seems to be encroaching in places I'd rather it stay out. That may lead to some shifts in software usage, recommendations from me, etc. That's fine.

At the end of the day, writing is a passion and also a business. If I cannot Copyright my own work, I have no product. I'd rather take 6-9 months working on a first draft than spit out AI Slop in 30 minutes and try to pass it off as a "good read". I want my books to be ones that people reach for, because they're human, because they're relatable, because they're enjoyable to read. Will my next book be better than my last? That's ultimately up to the reader. All I can do is try to improve my skills over time, and hopefully that effort shines through.
